STOUI

DigiD4O is supporting the Standardized TOU Initiative (STOUI). There are 6 main category options for uses in TOU’s. To help alleviate confusion and clarify the meaning of the terms associated with each category, the STOUI includes the use of a set of graphical icons to represent the most common terms used in the digital scrapbooking industry. These icons are recognizable by color, shape, and the text displayed on them.

While it is not required that you use these icons in order to be included in our Resource Designer Directory Listing - we do highly encourage you to adopt the practice of using them in your TOU’s to help provide a professional level of consistency in our industry. They are beneficial to professionals who create digital art as well as to their customers.

This page shows the icons associated with the categories we have on our Resource Designer Directory Listing application. The STOUI website provides additional guidance along with the full set of icon options both online and in their download-able training products.

Pro-Craft

ProCrafter STOUI Icon The orange double-eclipse icon is for product TOU’s that allows for professional and hobby crafters to use the digi-scrap art to create hand-crafted projects that are then sold to a third party.
– You can use this category even when you have additional limitations on your TOU, such as number of projects the art can be used for or when allowing prints only and no digital redistribution, etc. Always include clear language in your TOU describing the acceptable and/or unacceptable uses of the art.
This is the category used for professionals who craft scrapbooks and other projects for their customers and to be included on our list, you must at a minimum offer this option in your TOUs.

Pro-Design

The brown double-block icon is for product TOU’s that allow digi-art designers to use the product as a tool to create their own digital art pieces for resale. Typically, tools used for creating such art include brushes, tubes, templates, vector shapes, textures, actions, etc.
– You can use this category even when you have additional limitations on your TOU, such as when derivative art pieces are limited to distribution in a flat file only, etc. Always include clear language in your TOU describing the acceptable and/or unacceptable uses of the art.
Please indicate on your designer application form if you also allow this option in your TOU’s.

Commercial

The green block icon is for product TOU policies that allow for commercial use. Commercial use is considered any activity that could result in the exchange of money or offer monetary gain to the person(s) distributing the product.
– When using this icon provide clear guidance in the TOU for any specific uses allowed or not allowed.
Please indicate on your designer application form if you also allow this option in your TOU’s.

Limitation / No Limits

Limits IconsThe purple triangle icon is used to show when a product TOU includes specific limitations in combination with other provisions.
– It is designed to allow additional information to sit on top of it, per the designers needs. See the STOUI training page on “Using the Purple Limited Icon” for specific examples of when/how to use this icon.
– When the green bar is placed over this icon it indicates there are no special limitations imposed on a product. A green bar across an icon works in the customers favor.
Please indicate on your designer application form whether or not you have limitations in your TOU’s.

Designer Credits / Not Required

Credits Icons
The yellow round icon is for TOU’s that require designer credits be given.
Note: When a designer does not require credit given it DOES NOT necessarily mean they are giving up the copyrights to their art. The only time copyrights are relinquished is when the designer specifically transfer their rights in written format.
– When the green bar is placed over this icon it indicates there is no requirement to credit the original designer. A green bar across an icon works in the customers favor.
Please indicate on your designer application form whether or not you require credits when using your products.
